HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

PREPARE NOW, DON’T WAIT!!!

  1. MAKE A PLAN: Make sure you and your family know what to do in the event of a hurricane or serious weather event.  You can visit gov or search GOHSEP Get a Game Plan for more information.
  1. BUILD A KIT: You’re going to need supplies not just to get through the storm but for the potentially lengthy and unpleasant aftermath.  Have enough non-perishable food, water, and medicine to last each person a minimum of seven (7) days.  Electricity and water could be out for at least that long.  Visit gov or search GOHSEP Get a Game Plan for more information on assembling disaster supplies.
  1. BE INFORMED: Have a way to receive emergency notifications and weather alerts through multiple means; cell phone, mobile devices, television, battery powered radio, etc.  Ensure your devices are set to receive emergency notifications and not silenced, especially at night.  Have a plan to charge them when the power is out.  Have extra batteries on hand.
  1. PROTECT YOUR HOME AND PROPERTIES:  Make sure your roof is in good condition.  Cut weak branches and trees that could fall on your house. Be prepared to cover large windows and sliding glass doors with shutters or plywood, secure outdoor items and store them indoors, and properly secure and protect watercrafts and trailers. Garage doors are especially vulnerable to high winds. If you live in a mobile home, make sure it is properly secured for high winds.  Secure watercraft, trailers and accessories.

YOUR PERSONAL HOUSEHOLD PLAN IS YOUR FAMILY’S FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE!
